Here In My (Our) World -- this Queen loves, loves, loves books. Occasionally she has recommended reads. Well, we are going to share book opinions/ramblings etc. (yadayadayada's). She once held the belief that a book once started must be finished. That view has changed. Too many books, too little time.
But books with books in their title are an instant must read. We have found some really neat things this way.
One example is two books written by Nancy Pearl --"Book Lust" and "More Book Lust", neither of which could you read all the books she writes about. --well, know what we mean. But, hey, bored with your current selections? They may even have them at the library. We invested in both in paperback (you can mark them up that way, since they belong to you!). And in her second book, she sets forth some great stuff about 'finishing' a book once started.
Quoting at random: One of her strongest held beliefs is that no one should ever finish a book that they're not enjoying, no matter how popular or well reviewed the book is. So evolves her "Rule of Fifty".
If you are 50 years old or younger: give every book about 50 pages before you
commit yourself or give it up.
If you are over 50 (ahem): subtract your age from 100. This is the number of pages
you should read before deciding whether or not to quit. (and you need not tell anyone
this number!)
If you are 100 or over: You can judge a book by it's cover!
THIS IS SO FREEING!
So, coming next -- a book about a book that did not get finished!

this is wonderful -- i've been feeling a bit guilty that i can't commit to the "god is an englishman' again :(; especially after telling young daughter how wonderful it is. ...i'm bored with it. so, thanks queen -- i'll put it away outta my sight!
i read the reviews on amazon before i commit anything. that and recommendations from friends and family keeps me on the straight and narrow book path.
